Moving to Washington, DC!

Hi everyone,

Well there's a little bit to update on. As I am sure most of you know by now, I was offered the position in Peru but ended up turning it down due to a compensation package I couldn't accept. I did accept an internship in Washington, DC with the Africa Center for Strategic Studies. I should be starting March 28, 2011, so I have just a few weeks until work begins! I am really looking forward to it, it sounds like interesting work and it should be a great opportunity. I was also interested in being in the DC area if I was going to stay in the States, so I will use this time to find something more permanent and maybe get a little settled. One of my best friends from the embassy in Ghana, Chantal will also be moving there this summer so that's going to be fantastic to have some friendly faces. I am currently working out the housing situation and should be arriving in DC around the 26th of this month. Not even 3 weeks away!

Other than that, I have been spending lots of time with Grandma, and my little cousin Katie. I have even been learning to play Wii. Initially when I started trying to play it with Katie, she was not impressed with my skills (or more the lack of them) at all. I am sure she thought I was holding her back since I died at a minimum of every few minutes. My time with her has had me improving my skills!

I've also been getting back into cooking which is really nice with all of the fresh veggies and options of foods available! It's nice to have access to an oven and everything else to since I was so limited in Ghana. The weather in Arizona is just now beginning to get to be too hot for me (it's about 85F) so I'm glad I'll be getting out of here before the summer hits and I sit and cry in the car =P. The year is flying by, I'm thankful I've had so much time home with my family but I am also looking forward to this new experience in DC. I'll keep you all updated!

Lots of love!
