Here we are on another weekend in Ghana. I can't even really tell you all that I have accomplished this week, but I can tell you, I am tired from whatever it was! I hate it when weeks feel so long but I can't look back and pinpoint anything spectacular I have accomplished.
The day before yesterday my little electric water heater melted into the socket, they were both black and gooey, and I thought to myself "I KNEW that couldn't be very safe!"... quickly followed by "NO! There goes my warm bucket showers." I found a replacement, and I only had to take two freezing showers. For some reason the water in my bath isn't just cool, it's very very cold. It makes me ears hurt to shower in it.
Friday night was Steve's (one of our volunteers) birthday. We got a group together and went to one of the few restaurants in town to celebrate with him. There was even a birthday cake. I am glad we got to help make him feel more at home, and it was also nice to do something so natural as have a birthday dinner, albeit with mixes of English and Fante floating around.
I just sat through what seemed to be the longest Catholic wedding service ever on Saturday afternoon. It was entirely in Fante and we stood and sat so many times. There was also what i thought to be a cute little boy, but he was actually a monster. He moved up to my row eventually and started trying to slap me and saying, "I'm gonna slap you, I am going to cut your hands and put them in the boiler and eat them!" I swear he couldn't have been more than three years old. I wonder where he learned such language and behavior.
Sunday afternoon was spent by the pool.... very nice and relaxing and now I am ready for another week of work... kinda.
Love to all.
