Some random facts about Holland in comparison to Arizona

The Netherlands
  1. 16.4 million people live in The Netherlands.
  2. Population density is 1,023 people per square mile for the entire country.
  3. In the city of Amsterdam however, the population density is roughly 11,500 people per square mile with a total population of about 752,000.
  4. The elevation is 7 feet.
  5. Amsterdam has 60 square miles of land and 20 square miles of water.
  6. The city was awarded city rights in 1300.
  7. 27% of Holland is below sea level and 60% of the population lives below sea level (just so you know the rest of the country is not much above this point!)
  8. In August the average temperature is only 63 F.
  9. In Feb the average temperature is 37 F.
  10. Average rainfall for year is about 3 feet.
  11. In the Netherlands only about 80% of the population is Dutch.
Arizona
  1. About 6.3 million people live in Arizona.
  2. The population density is 56 people per square mile.
  3. The population density for Phoenix is about 2,938 per square mile.
  4. The elevation of Phoenix is about 1,117 feet.
  5. Phoenix has 517 square miles of land and only .2 square miles of water.
  6. Phoenix was incorporated in 1881.
  7. The average temperature in August is 105 F.
  8. The average temperature in Feb is 71 F.
  9. The average rainfall in Phoenix is about 8 inches annually. 
  10. As of 2000 about 20% of the population speaks Spanish and about 1/3 of the state is of Hispanic origin.
  11. Arizona is roughly 7.5 times larger than the entire country of The Netherlands.
