Well, this short post before bed is dedicated to my dad who specifically requested I update my blog.
I am sitting here in Cape Coast sweating and listening to the fan whir as I hope for enough of an air flow to cool me down for the night when I see a big movement running across my floor. I was on the phone when I noticed that it was a spider. As a girl from the desert, I tend to be fairly cautious about spiders and other things that may bite me and poison me, and let's face it, I'm a huge sissy. I proceeded to scream, throw my phone across the room and try and lurch my heavy wooden bed out of the way as he scurried underneath it. Imagine my dismay when no matter how I moved the bed or the suitcase under it I could not locate the evil bugger. I grabbed the bug spray and let loose enough noxious fumes to almost put me out and then finally gave up hope. I imagined him not being able to cross my barrier of Raid I had carefully sprayed on every corner of the bed.
I was resting again when I saw him run out from underneath my bed. I ran for my shoe but was afraid to get too close, who knows maybe he's one of those crazy jumping spiders I was thinking... so I grabbed the spray again and soaked him completely. As I watched him die (thankfully pretty quickly) I began to feel kind of bad. After all, I don't know if he really would have tried to "eat me" as I claimed he would try to do to the friend I was talking to one the phone when I first launched my attack. (My friend described the sounds of our battle as sounding like World War III). And maybe he would have left me peacefully. But he was big enough to bite I am sure. A spider that big has to have fangs right?! So now, I am safe and secure in my room filled with the remnants of Raid gas but feeling slightly guilty at my superior war tactics. The spider never had a chance.
Love you guys.

And maybe he was a good spider that kept the other nasty bugs out of your room and you gassed him. But you are victorious! (and I know how you feel about bugs :-)
Did you take a picture so we can identify the spider?Ian
he shriveled when i completely doused him with raid or i definitely would have taken a picture. He was way too big for me to live side by side with!
