Hi everyone,
Well, this past Friday was a national holiday in Ghana. The Muslims slaughter a cow or a sheep and distribute the meat to the poor. On Saturday we finally celebrated Thanksgiving, a friend of mine, Salem (who is originally from Lebanon) was kind enough to let us host the dinner at his house. We had my volunteers, some volunteers he knows from another organization, some Lebanese friends, and some Ghanaian friends. It was quite the mix. A turkey ended up being too difficult so we had grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, french fries, hummus, lebanese bread, and fresh garlic sauce (one of my favorite things). The dinner was quite good and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves which I guess is more important than us having turkey although I must admit I greatly missed pumpkin pie. After dinner we were witness to a Lebanese concert. Everyone was singing songs in arabic, we even had a drummer, and there was dancing. I had a good time as did my volunteers, I know it can be difficult to be away from home during the holidays so I wanted to make sure they had some kind of celebration.
Sunday ProGhana continued work on one of the schools we build at at least once a month and we spent some time at the beach. The weather here lately has been unbearably hot. I am looking forward to going home to see my family in a few weeks.
This weekend I am going to the Volta region, an area I haven't been to that has waterfalls we can hike to and I think would be a good place to have excursions for my volunteers, so we'll test it this weekend!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I was thinking of you and am looking forward to seeing everyone in Arizona over the Christmas break.
My love to all....
