Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I updated last, and honestly I don't think TOO much has happened since the last time I wrote. As I think I mentioned, now that my data collection time is over, it is time to analyze it. This is a time-consuming process that I am still struggling with figuring out how best to go about it. Last week I went to a wedding in Mysore. The cousin of my translator was getting married and he thought I would enjoy seeing a traditional "Coorg" wedding. Coorg is the area my translator comes from, it is about 2.5 hours away from Mysore in the mountains. It is supposed to be a beautiful place but I have not seen it yet. The wedding was interesting, but slightly uneventful from my perspective. The bride and groom sat at the front under a tent made of flowers. Everyone attending the wedding walked past them and put rice over the bride's head and blessed them and said a few words. After everyone had done this it was over. No one really spoke, there was not anyone officiating the ceremony. I kept waiting for something more to happen but this was it. Apparently there was a later reception but I couldn't attend as I had to take a bus back to Bangalore to avoid traveling late at night alone.
Bangalore has been hot lately with some occasional storms. I think there is a storm starting right now... I'll probably have to walk home in it. A few days ago Sam, Whitney, and I got stuck at their office in a huge storm and ended up walking about a km in pouring rain during a blackout. Interesting experience.
The pictures are from the wedding. The man standing next to me is wearing a traditional Coorg outfit. The other is a picture of my translator and his wife and mother.
Hope everyone is doing well, my love to all. I'm heading out to brave the storm.
